i V Abac at LcgUUtars. Twma th AaMricaa Oncer. The long session of Congress and the lot weather have thinned out the rank of mpnabrs of Congress in WaMtiinton. h. that thHi nnaal of certain measures of very great importance to the husinees inter ests of the country is delayed, and the wheels ol industry ire held in suspense until it is known how they will decided. Whatever difference of opinion exist regard ing certain measures, members of Congress owe it to hi-wscl ves and the country, o have them decided one way or th -other. There are two bills, however, the passage of which would do much to insure the business prosperity of the country, viz., the Tonnage bill and the Tariff bill. The Tariff bill affects almost everv branch of in dustry. Manufacturers are unable to make their contracts for supplies many of which are drawn from distant points and even foreign countries. They are in the dark as to what markets they will be able to rtnntun for their nmHniti Importers are running in and piling up supplies of goods which they think are likely to be affected by tun tana, .uoney maraets are tbui lerango 1 an' I capital diverted fr .ua customary .-hannels, to the great detriment 01 legitimate in- duatrv. Tka Weight of a Dollar Hill. Do. you know how many one dollai bills it takes to weigh as much as a $20 gold piece ? Driv ing out to White Bear recently one of those walking compendiuras of useful information sprung the above query, and the opinions that it elicited show a remarkable ransre. One member of the party whose husinessit is to handle money in large sums, after pro found thought suggested that the number would be from 1000-to 1200. Others guessed down the line to 500, bnt no one less than that number. After all had placed themselves on record, the compen dium stated that the number of bills was 30 or 31. according to their condition as to dirtiness and age. Pioneer Press. A Heal Child ofth Ragimant. Was graduated last month from the Alexander-Varien institute in Warsaw. Her name is Marie Keks- n lm and her age is just 16 years. In the lant Turkish war she was picked up from the ruins of a burn ed and deserted town by the colonel of the Russian grenadier regiment of the emperor of Kussia. The members of the regiment voted, as soon as they went into camp, to support and educate the little Turkish girl at their expense. They contributed enough immedi ately to set their plan in operation and have continued ever since to buy their ward all that she desired. Five weeks ago they decided to give her a haiulsotue dowry when she should he ready to marry. Marie has a beautiful face and a keen mind, and it is expected that she will get her husband from the regiment that adopted her.
