E. church difi-e at the corner of Third and Ellsworth streets was laid last evening in the presem-e of a large number citizens. The exercises began at 6:J0. there were present kex. S. P. Wilson, presiding elder; Rev. H. P. Salchwell, of Corvallis; Rev. H. Gould, of Ml.edd and Kev. F. H. Calder of Leoanon, who agist ed the pastor, Rev. S. E. Mem minger, The exercises, which were held in the open air upon a platform erected on the site of the church buildintr, were opened with an anthem by the choir, followed by prayer and readings by the several ministers. An address was delivered by Rev. H. P. Wjlsnn, and remarks were made by th pastor and ' others. Several names were added to the subscription list to the buil d ing fund, which was increased several Lundred dollars. It is understood that they will recommend the construc tion of a fish ladder at Brown's mill. Large numbers of fine sal inon trout are now in the river he- low the dam. For the world's fair, says the Kitsap Pioneer, "the Tacoma mill proposes to cut and load on the cars at the mill gratis, the prize stick of the world. They have turned out a stick 150 feet long, squaring 30x30 inches, and claim that they can do much better than that. The three big mills of Kitap county Blakely, Madison and Gamble are getting up a bit of rivalry among themselves although they are a unit in tin matter ot 'doing up' the Tacoma mills on the prize stick." Mr. E. H. Morrison, superin tendent of the Seattle x Northern railroad, stales that the road ii now in operation beyond Sedro and is being rapidly extended to Hamilton. Before' this season ends he hopes to have the line con tinued up the Sauk river, a dis tance of seventy-five miles, wheie it will reach the gold and silver mines of tbe Cascade range. Richard Jones,an old and highly respected citizen of Long Tom pre cinct, Lane county, died recently, aged 55 years. He was a widower, his second wife having died several years ago. Five hundred thousand brick have been burned and a kiln of 300,000 more is just ready. 1 he foundation for the 100 barrel flouring mill was commenced to day. It will be a three-story building, covered with iron, and with the elevator will cost $20,000. It is to be in operation by Novem ber 1.
