W. Gilbert, who lives on the old stage road, about five miles north of this city, bad a large barn destroy ed by fire Monday. The origin of ! the fire is unknown, but it is sup- j posed to be the work of some in- j eendisry. In addition to the barn ' about fifteen tons of hay, a self- j binder and eight hogs were burned. ' At the time of the fire a stormy : breeze was blowing from theeouth west. which prevented the fine! bouse of Mr. Gilbert from being destroyed. The fire attracted many of the neighbors, but their efforts were of no avail, as it had too much the start. Mr. Gilbert's . loss will be about $1500.
