Bar Burned.
The Balem Journal pays J. W.
Gilbert, who lives on the old stage
road, about five miles north of
this city, bad a large barn destroy
ed by fire Monday. The origin of !
the fire is unknown, but it is sup- j
posed to be the work of some in- j
eendisry. In addition to the barn '
about fifteen tons of hay, a self- j
binder and eight hogs were burned. '
At the time of the fire a stormy :
breeze was blowing from theeouth
west. which prevented the fine!
bouse of Mr. Gilbert from being
destroyed. The fire attracted
many of the neighbors, but their
efforts were of no avail, as it had
too much the start. Mr. Gilbert's
. loss will be about $1500. As far
as could be ascertained there w as
bo insurance on the building.

ry, arrived in this city yesterday
from Fort Bidwell, California, on
their way to Vancouver. They
stopped off at this city to rest and
graze iheir horses for a day, and
will no on to-dav.
The boys in blue were given the
freedom of the city, so to sjak,
and the horses were placed upon
the farm of Mr. James Elkins in
the southern suburbs of the city.
They marched SMI miles froiu
Fort Bidwell to Reno, Nevada,
and were then shipped by rail for
