Kinlev tariff bill was received in
the senate this afternoon. It was
rei'erred to the committee on
finance.
Senator Stanford addressed the
senate on his bill providing for
loans bv tho mwerniiient ntrri-

made to the national banks bv the
government of 90 per cent, on its

crease the prosperity of the
humblest classes in labor and
assist the wealthier to success in
their enterprises. The bill was re
ferred to the committee on finance.

on the president for information as
to the lauding of an armed force
from the revenue cutter at Cedar
Keys, Fla.. the forcible entry of
houses and the pursuit of citizens.

The house committee on elec
tions -to-dav acted on the three
cnding contested election cases
and the result will probably be an
increase in the republican majori
ty in the house bv two members.
The cases decided were those of
Lagstone vs Nenabeme from the
40th Virginia district ; Miller vs.
Elliott, ot the th South Carolina,
and Chalmers vs. Morgan of the
2nd Mississippi. In the first two
cases the committee will report in
favor ui seating the republicans,
Laugetone and Miller, but in the
Mississippi case the report will be
in favor of seating the democratic
member Morgan.
MeCreary of Kentucky, to-day
introduced a bill to provide for the
survey ot' an inter-continental road
to connect north and South Amer
ica. The house at its evening session
passed 42 private pension bills and
then adjourned.
