CITY COUNCIL. n Bond of Equalization to Met oa Ma; 6 9tret ImproTtmtDts- I Tho citv council convened in regular session last evening, The committee on streets and public property to whom was re ferred tho petition for an arc light on the corner of Fifth and Jackson streets recommended that tho mat ter lay on the table, which was ad opted. The petition of E. J. O'Connor and othcr3 for a cross walk was granted. The same committee reported upon the recommendation of the commissioner to gravel EUworth street between Third and Fourth and for a cross walk on tho south sido of First street, also a new cross walk on the north side of Third street across Hill street, and tiiat tho city gravel pit be used if it can be opened without cost to the city. Tho committee on health aiid police to whoir. was referred the matter of the jietition of Mrs.Chea dle. to move an old building, re ported, rejecting the petition. The report was adopted. Tho time for holding the board of equalization of the assessment was fixed on Tuesday May , at 1 o'clock. The street commissioner mace various recommendations which were referred to the committee on streets and public property. On the matter of a new bridge across Peniwinkle creek near the fruit cannery, tho street commis sioner reported that the timber was framed and ready to erect and was instructed to place the same on grade and notify the property owners to grade tho street within ten days alter tho completion of the new bridge. Petition of D. R. N. Blackburn and othei a to establish a grade on Calapooia, Third and Washington street was read and referred to the committee of the whole, said com mittee to include the city surveyor. The ordinance amending the or dinance establishing the grade of streets and in rcierence to laying water and sewer pipes was amended, read third time and j passed. A repo-t was made that No. 2'n : engine company had, received their new suction and that ii was fitted and worked perfectly.
