Monday the stage was held up bv two masked men, and t-day Ira Burke, a teamster, w hile returning to this citv with an empty wagon, was halted near Auburn. lie passed over $o, but the robber sa d he knew I'lUikc had more, and jumped into the wacon to look for the money. Burke then jumped on the tongue of the wagon. The robber tired at him twice. This scared tbe team into a run and the robber decamped. CUE AT DISSATISFACTION'. Great dis satisfastion has been expressed at the selection of Williams' block as the site of the proposed chamber of commerce building. It is said the selection of the block did not repre sent the choice of the majority of the 5,000 subscribers to the stock. Only 147 voted at tho meeting Tuesday evening. The great objec tion to tho site is that it is too far from the business center. It is probable a site further up town will be selected, as the first selection in not final. Stowaway Found Doad. San Francisco. April 10. When the forward batch of the steamer Oceanic, which arrived from China and Japan to-day, was opeu edthe bodv oi a Chinaman in an advanced stage of decomposition was found on a pile of sacks. A resolution was made by Kev, "Wcl'man, which was adopted unanimously, that they sustain Esper and Bow man, and condemn the opposition in endeavoring to form an illegal organization as revolutionary. Win throp Gray, receiver of the North Kiver rsigar Hennery, has instituted .mother proceeding against the sugar trust. It is asserted that tl.e trust is in copartnership and tho deed or agreement under w hich it was organized is illegal and has been so pronounced by the court. Little k, April 10. At Browning Station, Franklin coun ty, sixteen persons were poisoned, and at last accounts twelve were in a precarious condition and not expected to live. William Brown ing shot a wild turkey gobbler and invited the family of George Hains to dine with him. After partaking of the turkey all were taken ill.
