The senate committee on privileges and elections began an investigation to day of the credentials of the vari ous claimants to seats in the senate from Montana. Before the formal session began tiaundern, one of the republican claimants, gave a brief statement of the situation. A full attendance of the comnvttec and the following persons interested from Montana were present: Saunders and Power, republicans, and Clark and Magimns, demo crats, claimants : A. J. Seligman, chairman of the republican state committee, Geo. It. Laogtry, ex- treasury agent at the fur heal islands, Congressman Jarter and Charles Pcwer, son of the republi can claimant. Colonel tlolbert h. Paine,- counsel for the republican claimants and ' General Jenks, counsel for the democrats. Colonel Paine presented the case on behalf of the republicans. RICH DISCOVERY.
