In looking through my mail at 10 a. m. to-day, I discover ed a leaflet bearing this legend : "Call at the window for a special delivery letter." On glancing over the letter after receiving it from the window, it proved to be a re quest to telegraph the condition of a very sick orphan sister, the writer wanting to know early, so as to visit her by the next train. After being in the hands of the spe cial delivery man for three hours, I received it just 20 minutes too late. Lady Aulley's Secret by the Eileford-Brophy Dramatic Com pany at the opera house last night was exceedingly well presented. Every part was sustained with the ! spirit and energy peculiar to this i company, who are each finished i artists in their well appointed! roles. Lottie Beaumont as Lady; Audley was superb, and Jessie! Norton as Phoebe Marks and Alta i Sherman as Alicia Audley were! perfect in their parts, to which! thev wen- well adapted. Jas. M.j Bro'phy as Robert Audley, W. .1.1 Elleford, as Luke Marks, Emile! Collins, as ieorg'i Talboys, and J. ! Siliince. as Sir Michael Audley, each sustained their characters to J perfection, and cxmmteu some clever acting. The company, alto gether, is as good as ever "visited this city, and truly adorns the histrionic stage. The play last night concluded with a most laugh able fare, entitled "Confusion," in which the poodle dog and baby in extricably mixed up matters in a very amusing style. To-night East Lynne will be presented, and to-morrow night, ''Fun in a Board ;ns School." There should be a large audience. Arrested at Ashland. Chief of Police J. The latter may be able to explain matters on his return with Officer Hoffman. For the I'onsennion of a Mine.
