The action of the inspectoi of hulls in allowing the tug Fearless, wrecked at the raouth of the Ump qua last week, to go to sea is very generally condemned by the peo ple of Gardiner and vicinity as the fact that shi was not seaworthy was nortorieus. The inspector had forbidden her to go to sea, bat afterwards countermanded the order, and thus caused the death of at least nine persons. In Western Oregon stockmeu are moving their herds from the moun tain to the valleys and plains. The snow of tht upper ranges is re sponsible for this action. Cattle men recall with regret tho good cid days when they were at liberty to run their stock into winter quarters on the reservation. It will be to the interests of the country mer chants to purchase their holiday j goods from this establishment, and j orders should he sent in at once, i Mr. Gradwohl has long since I proven his adaptability to thisj business, and it is taking no rise i to say that this emporium of elegant j fane v and decoiative ware is the i ire . tomplete in the Willamette ! : iley.
