The New York Tribune says that it is a favorite theory with many reason ers that human labor will accom plish as much in eight hours as it does in ten. To deny this dogma tically without any investigation would be foolish, but it is equally foolish to assert or believe it with out any evidence. The man who tends a machine can not as a rule get more wrk out of that machine than it now does, whether he works tan hours or eight hours, or only one hour. The great army of nen whose labor is connected with that of animals can not get the horses or oxen to do as much in eight hours as they do in ten. In a very large number of employ ments it seems to be obvious that the amount of work now performed could not be performed in lei s time, although in other employ ments there i3 room for doubt about it. The labor organizations do not appear to have investigated this matter, OFFICE IX THK t'Ol l!T llol SK. JIJusiness entrusted t. my care will receive prompt and care ful attention. WEST LIVING RATES.
