Obs-rvations of a '"Hsiali" Mao oa a 07er the Eastward Exteapion, Trip Hoarding the O. I train ai Al bany at 8:30 a. xt. Wednesday Sept. 17, we traveled eastward along the line, our destination te rns Lyons, a small town situated on the road about 28 miles from Albany. The road runs through a country varied and picturesque, part rich farming lands, through heavy timber and our numerous mountain streams, from whose bright waters a speckled beautv frequently throws its bright scales to the sunlight. The trip was made with but few incideir.s worthy or mention. A few miles east of Munkers, in the heart of a dense forest, a redheaded irirl. dressed in a spotted calico gown, jumped upon a log and wavea iter handkerchieUt the passing train, ' I thought at first she was signaling ! the conductor, but as we made no i effort to stop I changed my mind. But I believe yet that the redhead ed siren of the forest had some j connection with It. It. officials, ! anyhow she seemed lo be rerog-i (nized by a brakemaii who was j leaning ou. of the window. Alter) mm unit; uu vi iiiuuiuaill Illllil- Ition things moved along quietly, and luchng unutterably drowsy 1 t i:ew my leet over the back of the next seat and went to sleep, and like th prophet of old, or the ; gifted Lumbeit of my hist letter 1 j bad a vision. It seemed that old father liui; h.ii j imp 1 ;t cjg ; an j it was in the fall ot IS'io. and 1 was traveling over the saiue line but the scenery seemed different, the car was a magniliuent sleeper I instead of the common smoker that 1 was in a,ld wl)il 1 was tying to account lor the change a brakuman crammed ds head in at the door, anu in the common dialect ot tne ; tribe, shouted "Boise City" change cars lor all points East. The car door closed with a bang, and 1 started to my feet, only to ' find myself in the smoker with the railroad laborers around me, and j the train slowly coming to a stop i at Lyons. It was a rude awakenim; but w ho has got nerve to say that my vision will not be realized. I Lyons is a town not as large as , : . hi., i . . . . - a wui ue, out it is yei in its in fancy, and is rapidly growing. It contains two general merchandise stcres, the largest and most nouu- lar one is conducted by Mr. Henrv Lyons, who carries a little oi" most j everything that is needed. i faring my brief sojourn in the t-,ty ot i-yons, 1 was a guest at the Whacker House, and 1 can truly say without prevancatingthat they whack up a meal that would turn the stomach of a south sea Islander.
