J HAXKRUPT LA W. The question of settliug the business of insolreiit creditors is one of the most vexing ones that comes before tribunals of justice. It is one in which there is as much diversity in the laws of the differ ent spates as is usually ascribed to the divorce and marriage laws. Systematic effort has been urged upon Congress to make a general national law upon the subject, that shall bt; fair to all and uniform in its action. The St. Louis Republic thinks that there has been an un doubted change in public sentiment as to the necessity for a uniform bankrupt law. As the opposition ! to such a law has been strongest in i the West, the change in sentiment) has been more marked in this sec tion than in the East. It will probably avail nothing now to dis cuss all the reasons upon which the objections of Western business men have been based. An all sutlicient reason is found in the impression which has prevailed here that previous bankrupt laws have been for the benefit of debtors .....I 'i:u . '"""""' io care of children.
