The London laborers strike will probably do more to awaken the British mind to the true situation of affairs than any other event could possibly have done. As the Chronicle truthfully remarks there need be no doubt about the cause of this strike, which began with the laborers on the London docks and has spread up and down the Thames river, and now embraces laborers and workmen and opera tives of many diflerent kind?. These men struck for higher wages simply and solely because they could not support themselves and their families on the pittance which they were receiving. Their labor was hard and wearisome, and wajjes had been scaled down to the very lowest notch, until famine began to press the laborers and they reyolted ; and in such a revolt labor always wins unless it throws away its chances by committing deeds of violence or lawlessness which array society against it in selfdefense. Thus far order has prevailed, and there has been a singular absence of rioting or dis turbance of any kind ; and if the Strikers can but persist in that course they will be sure to win the fight, for they will enlist public opinion and sympathy in their favor, and capital vatinot hold out against the combined attack of labor and public sentiment. When the lack of the very neces sities of life, which the stagnation of business caused by this strike is likely to bring about comes, home to the aristocratic law maker of Great Britian, it may open his eyes to the necessity of considering the rights, welfaro and happiness of the working classes as wed as hi? own ease and comfort. The present situation is that London is in a comparative state of blockade, 90 far as her food supply is con cerned. Ships laden with provis ions of different kinds lie in the river and cannot be unloaded, be cause there are no laborers to unload them. Very likely this will prove as effectual a weapon as the strikers could have devised, for when the employers begin to get hungry they will be more inclined to listen to the petition of the lab orers who have struck because they did not receive enough wages with "which to buy food. Iris authentically stated that thn tin deposits of the Black Hills exceeds that of ail the rest of the world. A correspondent of the New York Tribune says that the most careful estimates show the Black Hills tin to be very valuable and equil in quality to the best tin of Europe. If all the rock is, taken and bioken at the mill the yield in percentage is low ; but if the rock is picked, as it usually is, it is very high. Hand samples for exhibi tion contain 25 and even 50 per cent, of black tin. Professor Blake, a good authority, says that most of the ore will carry ten pounds of cassiterite and upward, and that nearly all of it is so rich in metal that it will bear treating at the mills. Professor Carpenter esti mates that if this is done 2 per cent of : he cassiterite wiil be the aver age of all ores in the Hills.' This is better than Cornwall, and l,o niv. American mines hold the advan tage over all the tin mines of the world. The school of mines at Rapid City, Dak., Prof. Franklin R. Carpenter, Prof. II. O. Hoffman and many other scientific men and metallurgists testify to the correct ness of what is written concerning the tin of Dakota. The people of Alabama are a long suffering cummunity, but when they once set about a job they are apt to do it up thoroughly. Some proselyting Mormon elders who were working there schemes for recruits lo the church of the latter day saints, were left unmo lested in their work until they transgressed all limits of respect and endurance by inducing married women to desert their homes and families and take up with the polygamous wretches proposals. Then the people arose and in right eous indignation laid on the lash until the aforesaid elders will have j amnio 'rounds to return to their: IT .... ,1 " r ,A n Cnlf 1 i o ond . pose as martvrs to the lacivious ciiisu of their churc'.i tensts. They propose to rebuild their dam, merely for the purpose of a pleas ure fish'ing resort. Even if the people of that vicinity allow such a proceeding to be accomplished, the cast of every hook and line in the waters of the reconstructed death trap would bring up such woeiul memories as would drive any man with heart and feelings into a lunatic asylum before he had felt the first nibble at his bait. Ox the subject of the general business outlook, there is said to be a decided improvement all around. The Star says that as the autumn approaches the general business situation steadily improves. The latest returns from all distributing centers of the eountry present an encouraging and hopeful appear ance. The wheat harvest is nearly completed and indications are that both the yield and quality of the grain are better than the govern ment crop report imply. Within the next fortnight the outcome of the corn crop will also be decided. It will be a good one in almost any event. But if the corn belt has a couple of weeks of arm ripening weather it will be a phenomenal Crop. New York Starr. Thk settlement of warlike affairs in the island of Hayti, by the flight and abdication of Legitime and the occupation of the capital of the island by Hippolyte places the latter at the head of the govern ment and secures peace and quiet. It is hinted that the United States lent its secret influence to bring about this state of affairs, and that the result will be to give our coun try the supremacy in influence and shape future commercial relations to our advantage.
