Oregon's pleasure resort is to be found at Newport, on Yaquina Bay, where all the elements for a watering place are found in pre-eminent prolu.-ion. The C'orvallis Firemen. 1 he Corvalhs Times says : C'or vallis will probably send a hose team to the firemens' tourna ment at Tacoma next month. They will begin practicing in earnest at once and hope to be able to make some showing among the professionals. East Portland will send a team composed principally of professional sprinters, including Jack Gillpin, Charles Weinberner, better known as Jack Gibson, and Eph, Cameron. Tacoma will have a team of professionals, led by Harry Bethune, the American champion. It would seem as if the Corvallis boys will be a trifle cheeky in entering such a contest, but our boys might surprise some of th- flyers in other towns. Wheat. i he price of wheat remains ('.'! j cents in this city, and none is sell j ing. The outlook of the markets i of the world is certainly such as to induce farmers to hold for better prices, there is a shortage in the ' old world and in India and Austra-! li.i. which must be filled and the ! i niieii States win in- called upon io supply much of this wiiesa.
