The announcement that Judge David I Terry had been shot and killed in the Southern Pacific depot at Lath rop, Cal., this morning, as a result of au attempt to provoke a personal altercation with Justice Stephen Field of the United States supreme court, caused an extraordinary amount of excitement in this city. The possibility of an encounter be tween Terry and Justice Field has been recognized ever f-ince the im prisonment of Terry for contempt of court, owing to the known tem per of the man who killed United States Senator Frederick in the early days of California. Old Negro Tobias Jackson has been claiming for some time to be the prophet Daniel and convinced three young negjpes Saturday last that they were representatives of Shadrach, Mescbech and Abedne go, the three children of Israel, who entered Nebuchadnezzar's furnace of old. and persuaded them to enter tho Schloss fuanace liere, used for melting iron. Be fore a large number of negroes they rushed into the white heat of the furnace, and when they failed to reappear Jackson announced that he saw them rise into the skies. He said they would visit tke earth next Sunday, and the negroes propose to assemble at the church and continne in prayer un til their descent. A TERRIBLE STORM. Thunder aad Wind Prcdd by LightaiBg. Albuquerque, N. M., Aug. 14. Yesterday afternoon the people of Albuquerque were frightened by the raging of a terrible thunder and wind storm preceded by sharp flashes of lightning. Huge whirl winds of sand came down from the mountains, occurring at intervals and blinding pedestrians. It looked like rain, for the clonds were heavy and dark, but the rain did not come. Lightning struck a pole near the freight depot 6tunning a number of clerks. The pole was shattered into splinters. It was understood la6t evening that a driver and team were killed on the Mesa as they reached the mountains by the same flash of lightning. Late last night fifteen tramps jumped on a Reading railroad coal train be low this city, near the point where two f the railway company's offi cers were recently dangerously shot. The tramps cut the train into three parts, which act was only discovered in time to prevent another train from running into tho first train. Tho railroad police officers and a squad of city police were called out, but when they arrived on the scene the tramps had fled. It was then discovered that they had robbed the rear caboose, the brakeman being seized and rendered powerless to prevent robbery. Similar outrages have been frequent recently. Kilraia Arrested.
