Last night Jake Kilrain 6tnpped to the skin and was closely examined bv a re porter, who could not lind a mark upon him, not even a discoloration of the skin. Kilrain declared that ho was not severely punished by Sullivan, and that the hot sun had more to do with his poor showing than Sullivan's blows. "I ' just weakened and died awav and that was all there was to it," so Kilrain put it. He says he may go to Cali fornia to try for some of the big purses they offer tiiere. The propeller Smith .Moore, ore laden trom this port for Cleveland, collided iu a fog yesterday afternoon with the propeller Jamcj Pickans, also of Cleveland. An uukuown steam barge picked up the Moore and attempted to tow her into harbor, bnt when within a short distance of lar.d the disabled vessel was found to be kink ing. The crew were rescued, and th Moore went down in seventy feet of water. She lies in a sheltered posi tion; and can probably be raised. The Moore is valued at $75,000, and is cwued by Harvy Brown, J. The politi cal conference held by leading repub lican Senators in Washington last week is to be followed at au early day by a caucus of all the republicau Senators. The caucus will discuss the general policy of the republicau party daring ire coming session of congress, bnt it ia no opeu secret here than theprmcipal Vjet iavex i tir , bring about a eh'nite understanding between certain JJenators, who feet somewhat agrieved on account of the treatment they have met with at the administration, and the President. There Las been a disposition in cer tain quarters to make it appear thaft Gen. Harrison is disposed t follow Cleveland s example in the matter of J failing to consult with the part leaders before determining important matters of policy and in the making of important appointments. This idea is vigorously refuted by the President and his clesest fneu s, who point to the fact that in no case where the entire delegation of a State was in harmony, has there been the least trouble or delay in the matter of making appointments. The whole matter has been thoroughly discussed from every rtandpoints by the Presi dent and Senators Allison, Cuilom. Dolph and Chandler The Pres dent assured them that he was not only willing but was extremely desirous to have the advice of the party leaden at any and all times. The result of that conference will be reported to the caucus, which by the way, report says is to be held in New York City, and the result is expected to be har mony between the Senate and the ad ministration. It having been reported to the Sec rtary of the Treasury that twenty five English glass-blowers were brought to this country under con tract by a firm at Jeaunette, Pennsyl vania in April, he has directed the (J. S. District attoi ney at Boston, w tu u they land to investigate and report the facts.
