AND GENERAL JHARDWAFE TIIL CROP OUTLOOK. The weekly report of the State Weather Bureau upon the present , condition of crops ia Oregon is most flattering for the Willamette Valley while ir some portions of Eastern Oregon it indicates almost a fail ure, it says : The efiYct of pres ent conditions on crops, while they have not heen favorable, they :annot !; said to be injurious. ' They are more favorable than the conditions of the previous t.vo weeks. Tin partly cloudy weather has been conducive to more mois ture in the air, and it did not allow the burning of the wheat so much. The cooler weather had a benefi cial effect on the wheat, Kain is badly needed in all parts of the state, save along the coast and m sections of the Willamette Valley, fn Wasco county the yield of wheat Till be comparatively small, the spring wheat is a total failure, the fall sown wheat will be a fair yield. In other parts of Eastern Oregon some spring wheat will trade. It is evident that the i United States is fast losing ground in the competition for foreign trade ! and the necessity for some protec tion is manifest. Of course there is but one way to accomplish this, and that is to establish and main tain steamship lines between the United States and foregn ports. Congress should offer reasonable RiibHidie?) to the.se lines. j 1 orer Bros'.
