Imme diately upon receipt of press re ports that government officials and employes in Oklahoma had used their authority to secure pr"or rights in the lauds, the president aud Secretary Noble telegraphed to special agents now in the territory to make a thorough and prompt investigation and immediately no tify the secretary of their findings. Their report isexp3Cted during this week. Secretary Noble sa;.d that not the least sha'dow of injustice to settlers would be tolerated for a moment. As soon as he facts could be ascertained if any official were implicated in any wrong do ing the action of the government will be very prompt. EX-rONYICT SHOT. j Fatal Kiuling of a Drunken Src- in San 1'raiieisco. Sax Francisco, April 25. John IVhalen, an ex-con kt, was shot and killed early this morning by his cousin, James Wilkenson, alias Tug Wilson, on Market street, near Fourth. Wilson claims that Walen struck him with a loaded cane, and that he shot in self de fense. Whalen's wife was present when the shooting occurred. All three were under the influence of liquor, Wilson and Whalen having been on a spree together for several days. Wilson was arrested, as were also Mrs. Whalen and Max llurschsmidt, who were detained as witnesses. Itoulanger Lionized in London. London, April 2r. It is thought the road will tan the ereat sugar pine belt of Fall river valley, skirting the Sierra Nevada foothills to Oroville, ttence crossine Colusa and Lake counties, to a junction with the Donohue road. They will have about 100,000 brick on hand in 30 days. It is expected to turn out 200,000 brick per month. BLACKSMITH SHOOTS HIMSELF. Portland, April 25. John Dun ager, aged 29 years, married, and a blacksmith, employed in the North Pacific lumber mills, shot himself through the left side this morning with a 44-caliber Win chester rifle, and the wound is almost certain to prove fatal.
