So much interest is now felt in the condition of the territories owing to the prospect of rongress taking action toward the admission oi two, if not three, of them before the adjournment of the present session that we have complied the following table of population and property valuation from the leportof the Secretajy of the In terior : Territories. Tii3 growth of our national re sources in pretty well illustrated by the Globe-Democrat, when it says that the statistician of the depart ment of agriculture estimates the curn product of 1888 at 2,000,000, C00 bushels, and the wheat pro duct at 400,000,000 bushels. These figures tell an eloquent and unpre cedented story of national progress and indicate in a very impressive way the relation of our country to the rest cf tiie world as a food-producer. We not only supply our own wants, but we help to feed the people of almost every other nation under the sun. Within a period of a little oyer a hundred years, practically speaking, we have evolved a system of agricultuie wmcn innnence civilization every where, and contributes directly to the comfort and happiness of the whole human race. One question of importance to consider by the people is whether the state shall continue to have an agricultural college in nam only, or whether it shall be an institu tion whose name indicates its real and genuine character. Petitions to the legislature should be sent to that body so rapidly and fully signed as to cause it to take the needed action upon the subject. The beet-siiijar industry is corr. ing into prominence more and more. The Prairie Farmer says that Sugar-King Claus Spreckles claims to have solved the beet sugar pcoblem at last. His beet sugar factoiy, he says, has a capacity oi forty-four tons per day, and this will be increased to fifty tons. Mr. Spreckels further de clares that "this is really the first successful effort to make beet-surar in this country on a large scale, and it is a grand success."
