By an accident, on the Lehigh
Valley road this morning six per
sons were killed and twenty
wounded. A l'ennsvlvania freight
ran into a Iliigh Valley gravelj
tram, i he construction train vi?
unloading ties at Larnoud Siding
on the Potts ville branch, when the
fast Pennsylvania freight dashed
into the construction cars. Forty
Hungarians were at work unload
ing ties ; six were killed and
twenty-six wounded. A brakewan
of the Pennsylvania train was also
killed. Twenty freight cars were
wrecked and it is leared that many
of the wounded, who had to wait
three hours before help came, will
die. The names of but four of the
dead have been ascertained, as
follows: Joseph Ixjrensk, Mike
Oathlicki, Ludwig Pike and John
Levenki. Tne other dead went by
numbers.

North Side street conductors and
drivers it was decided to send a

interpretation of the agreement is.
Cars are still running, but it is be
lieved that unless further conces
sions are made another strike will
result.

House In Chicago.
Chicaoo, Oct. 10. Hon. John
Wentworth, better known as
"Long John" Wentworth, died
this morning. Mr. Wentworth
was one of Chicago's oldest citi
zens. He was once mayor of the
city, congressman and editor of one
of the leading daily papers here.
He was a man of great frame, and
nearly seven feet in height.

with head high in air, eyes sunken

and teeth showing in abroad smile.
The old Whig h.st courage and
passed withouc recognition. Next
morning, in perusing the news
paper, he read Webster's reply to
Hayne. At once he took the
orator's note and tore it to pieces,
so prodigious was the effect of the
splendid philippic. Another
fricad once found Webster reading
law with $5 and $10 bills as book
marks in the volumes before him

Senator Chandler's resolution

Mr. Chandler will endeavor to get
it passed this week, but the tariff
