Two great street car systems of the west and north sides are now tied up. The strike of the west side began this morning apparently, as last night's cars were run into the barns. Nearly three-fourths of the popu lation of the city are left w ithout ot'er means of transportation than footing it or riding on extem porized carriages and express wagons. No attempt wi'l be made to run cirs on the west division to-day. Everything is quiet in all directions. London, Oct. 9. The British man.of-war Aspricy has captured, off Mocha, two slive vessels, hav ing on board 200 slaves. The cap tain and four slaves were killed before the slavers surrendered. The Oregon ian says that an Indian named Wachener, who has been acting as chief of police at the Grand Konde rr .ervation, was brought in yesterday by Deputy Marshal Roberts and examined be -fore United States Commissioner Paul K. Deady, on a charge of sell ing liquor to Indians. Wachener has been drawing the immense salary of $S per month, yet his ex penses were too great to be met by this sum, and he went into tl e firewater business on a large scale among the members of his trib- ( He naturally supposed that he would be exempt from punishment, as he was the only officer to make an arrest, and he certainly would not be foolish enough to take him self into custody. He was held to answer, and in default of bail com mitted to the county jail to await trial. The supreme court of Utah to-day en tered a final judgement and d -oree in the case of Uie United States ayaiDst the Mormon church.which was pending to dirolve the church corporation and to have its prop erty d elated escheated to the government. The theory has been advanced that corn can be "climated" here, as the term is, so as to mature quite well, but what success has attended effoits in that direction the writer is not compet ent to stat?. SH tIM' BV TIIE SEA A Passenger Drowned last Wednes day on Gray's It -rb ir Bar. The Gem. Miles arrived in yes terday morning with freight and passengers from Gray's harbor. She had a rough trip part ot the way, the sea being unusually stormy to the northward. While crossi'ig out from the hrbor last Wednesday morning one of ths passengers, a young man named Ike New nan, was swept off by a wave and drowneel.
