The steamer Willamette' fallev arrived at Yaquina City Siindav afternoon, bringing about 100 pas sengers from 'Frisco, over seventv hve of whom were tasen to the liont on a special train in the atcernoon, to do service on the ex tension. The alapooia .!ine. A Brownsville correspondent to the Oregonian writes : Last week Messrs. Kobe and Bianchard re turned from the Pioneer mine, on the head of the Calapooia. They report that the Eugene company is pieparmg to ship a ton of ore to an rrancisco for testing. Thev sunk a shaft on tlie Pioneer tweii-ty-two feet deep, and the quartz is getting more solid and prospects fully as well at that depth as on the surface. The origin of the fire is thought to have been from a match which one of the Chinese hop-pickers dropped in a hop box, ami w hich ignited during the pro cess of drying. DeLashniutt, mayor of Portland, and member of the state board of agriculture, has bought from Dr. W. P.. dough, of Walla Waila, the wo year old, Blondv, which last week, at Portland, broke all previous Oregon records, and made a mile in 2:47. The consideration was $1550. Blondv was sired by Lemont, brother of Altamont and son of Alinont, the famous trotting stallion. His dam was by Frank Chapman, he by Tuckahoe. White of this city was mariied the past week to Miss Alice Hay of Harrisburg. Robert has hosts of friends here who wish him success. The North Brownsville school be gins to-morrow. Prof. Hall of Cor vallis, and Miss Hattie Long as teachers, but as many children are picking hops, the attendance will probably be small the first two weeks.
