Keeney has added a set of burrs and a new water wheel to his ini'l, and will use the same for chopping grain. On Wednesday V. W. Robe, who has been unwell for several weeks, started for the Calapooia mining district, m company with R. Blanchard, of Brownsville. It is reported that some one en tered Mr. Bl ickburn's garden a few nights since and totally de stroyed his fine watermelons, cut ting to pieces what melons they could not eat and pulling up the the vines. The air brakes were dam aged, and also the air signal, so that the trainmen could not signal the engineer, who was ignorant of ihe accident. Being on a steep grade, the tram ran about a mile before it could stop. Three cars were thrown off the track and badly mashed up. The train ran on a bridge, and tore up, smashing ties and timbers into kindling wood for about 700 feet. Fortu nately no one was hurt, but the track and bridge are so broken up as to delav all trains. Wiil Beeelve a ortane. It is learned that some time ago Mr. D'Houdt died in California, leaving an estate valued at $80,000 to $100,000. He left all his prop erty to his second wife according to the will in her possession ; but it seems that he had before made another will, leaving neatly all of his property to his sister, Mrs. Van Windle of Albany, mother of Mrs. Clint Monroe of Salem. A convention of the Southern Oregon Fruitgrowers' Association will be held at Heber's grove, near Medford, Sept. 2i). A road will be built from the North Powdei to Cracker creek mines, a disfifcnee of twenty-five miles. It is hoped to have a four horse coach running on this route by October. 1. Charles A. Isaac Gentry of Ballston lost about 500 -ushels of wheat that was in sacks in his field at Ballston. by fire. The origin of the fire is not known. Considerable of the grain that was saved from the fire is more or less damaged. On Mrs. Vandevert's place, near Zena, 30 or 40 bushels of wheat was destroyed by fire, which was set out from the threshing engine, when moving from the field and was not extinguished until it had caught into the wheat sacks. Mrs. T. F. Campbell of Dallas, Polk county, accompanied by i,er i mother, Mrs. D. Stump, has gone to Canton, Missouri, where they will join the professor, who is now president of the Christian College of that place. Mrs. Stump will remain during the winter. John Stapleton, who lives two j miles east of Dallas, while at Inde pendence Wednesday, met with a serious accident He was working around the grain chopper in Clag gett's warehouse and caught one of his hands in the cogwheels, taking off the ends of four fingers.
