Lyons and his brother, across the river from Mehama, on the line of the Oregon Pacific railway. This prospective city of the foothills is in a fine location, to which in time will be tributary a rich section of farming country, already pretty well settled, and there is no mason why a prosperous town cannot grow up there after the completion of the railroad. The Yaouina Post savs: ''Fiftv or sixty feet of the government jetty, west of the engine house, has been washed out." This was occasioned by the unfinished con dition in which the work was left when the appropiiatton was spent, requiring it to be stopped. It will be difficult to persuade the people who are interested in Vaquina bay that a portion of the much talked of treasury surplus might not have been profitably spent in this work instead of leaving the same unpro tected, to be swept awav by the ! storm and Cleveland's pocket veto , of the river and narbor bill.
