Fire broke out. early this morning in a large block on the corner of Lake and Peoria streets which gave the fire men great trouble boon after two o'clock it spread to a couple of res idei'ces West of the burning build ing, and eoon after a row of wood- en on; uirtga- acrose - the- street be gan to blaze, and it is believed uiat one man was burned to death. On fcecond Lake street a wall of the burning building fell out and seriously injured two or three fire men. Just before this Marshal Murphy with thirteen men were knocked down and badly bruised by the terrific explosion of hot air. The losses on the buildings and contents will will aggregate $300, 000 ; insurance small. Fire at Aurora. Aurora (111.), AIrch 30. One half of the Burlington paint shop building was burned last ni;ht. It had been fitted up as a hotel for the new engineers and firemen, over a hundred of which were" in their beds when the tire broke out. They had just time to grasp their clothes and get out before the building waB a mass of flames. Those burned out quartered in other buildings for the night, feeveral of them were a:aulted by unknown parties as thev rushed about the vards seek ing shelter. The Burlington offi cials say the fire broke out in two or three places simultaneously ,and that indications 'point strongly to incendiarism. THE KICK HSLL DISASTER. Jackson last niht pardoned sewn democ-raiic judges and clerks of election who were found guilty of having perpetrated frauds at the polls two years ago. They were sentenced on June 27th. last co two years imprisonment. Aid for the Flood Sufferers. Berlin, March 30. Al 1'osen military barracks have been open ed as a refuge for persons who have been made h meless by floods. .At Cologne several quays have been submerged, and those who inhab ited houses near the banks of the Rhine are leaving them. The United States man-of-war Lancas ter has not been heard of for an unusually long time. The Lan caster left Montevideo January 6th for Gibraltar, where she was to join the Mediterranean fleet. It was expected the voyage wen Id t?ke fifty days, but this is the seventh day since she started. Prior to leaving Montevideo the Lnncaster'a boilers were said to be in a bad condition that they could not be used, and it was thought she would have to sail a good part of the way. Everything looked as if 'a battle had been fought, and the bodies of all ex cept the two found, were put in a boat which was scuttled, or thrown int the river. During the wiutt r, we understand several bodies of Chinamen were picked up near Lewistoa, which would indi cate the latter theory is the correct one. Whether either is correct or not, the fact remains that the un touched camps are there and the Chinamen missing, except the bad ly decomposed bodies f the two found.
