The leap year party at the opera house last evening was a most pleasant affair, tiood music was in attendance and a number were present from abroad. A Small Bla.e. A flue in Wolverton & Irvine's law office burned out yesterday, causing no little alarm to the occu pants of the block. The blaze and smoke broke out of an unused stove-nine hole, which led to the teliei that the building was OH tire. A committee appointed bv the Oregon Fruit Growers' association is collecting a quautiiv of fruits to oiake a display t the meeting of the American Horticultural society to be held at San J-se, California, in a few days. A most shocking accident oc curred here at the Narrow Gauge depot last night, when one of the brakesman on the freight train was killed almost instantly. Information was received in this city last night that Mrs. Ephriam Frum, residing near Knox Butte, had fallen in such a manner as to break her thigh. Dr. Maston was summonad and will start this morn ing to render medical assistance. Wiliiam Alone, a man working in a logging camp, near Crawtords ville a few days ago, while hand ling a wire cable, let his hand get into the pulleys, mashing off all the fingers on the left hand. The injury was so severe that all the fingers had to be amputated.
