Tabler, Adjutant. lorn, i Information vas received in this city yesterday that Wm. Christian, abrakeman on the Narrow Gau;e railroad, was run over and killed at Brownsville Wednesday evening. The accident occurred in switching freight cars. The unfortunate man slipped and fell between the cars and was frightfully mangled, the wjiieeis passing over the entire length of his body, mutilatinsr it vond recognition. The deceased leaves a wife and several children. His parents re side at Eugene, his father being one of the eariiest settlers of that place. He was a son-in-law of Rjev. J. S. Powell, to the chief engineer at Washington shows the following condition of the work at the en trance to Yaquina bay : The pro ject is to build a high tide brush and stone jetty about 4000 feet long, on the south side of the entrance, with shore proteition, to close a rock obstructed channel for the purpose of providing a central free channel not less than twelve feet deep at mean low water. The total amount expended on the project to June 30, 1887, was $192, 626.53, and has resulted in the construction of 2517 feet of jetty and 450 feet of shore protection. The channel is now less shifting and is generally deeper, and is de fleeted permanently from the south rocks, through which the leep water sometimes ran.
