Bryan, Editor end Publisher, MMOLS, • • ■ NEBRASKA. BOARD OF TRADE. We are glad to see our esteemed contemporary taking a vigorous band in the Hoard of Trade ques tion. It is a subject which has frequently been stirred up in these coliims. All live cities hive organ izations of this kind and unless we expect to perish of a <lrv rot we should have one also. The neces sity for it does not admit of an ar gument and the longer the matter is delayed the farther in the rear we shall be in all those substantial things which i uild cities, improve a country and put people on a level with their wide awake progressive neighbors As has been repeatedly saiil in these columns within the past six months there is no more opportune time for this business tiufc. totyv. People expect Coquille, ns being the capital town of the county, to be right up square abreast with any other city in the country nnd as far ahead of many of them as it is possible for us to get. Thousands of new settlors are com ing west this spring nnd many are already in Oregon but we do not see any of them in Coquille because wears doing nothing to let tin m know where we are or wh it nature has bestowed so lavishly on this part of the state for the betterment of mankind. We want more ranchers and dairymen, more lumbermen, more h< me builders; and we want Factories too, ever»one of which hjiugs more population, more tinde for our merchants and less sending» abroad for things which could he manufactured at homo For in stance we have an abundance of rare woods here for furniture aud a furniture factory' is one of theerv- iug needs of Coos county. We sell lumber to San Francireo an 1 San Francisco makesit iuto furniture acd sends it back to us in part at least to be sold aud the buy era pay tbefroight both wars on what could just ae well be made here, sold at a profit and s’ill be much cheaper for the purchaser. And this is true of many other things. Manufactories make cities They bring population and business and tlisso things are what a city must have or “perish by the wayside.’’ There’s a whole lot more to be said on this subject aud we are go ing to keep right on harping about it until something is doue. Again we say let us have a Board o f Trade. H u b e r t B oland . C IT Y , OREGON, TU ESD A Y, F ro m th e C oos Bay News.
