DEMOCRATS NAME THEIR LEADERS- Adlal Stevenson Nominated Running Mate. as Bryan's When tho roll call was begun on the first and only ballot there was little demonstration as the delega tions announced their votes, but when the last territory was reached the guidons of the states began to gather around Illinois. Stevenson had 599 J votes, not enough to nom inate, but all I he chairmen whose delegations had not voted for Stev enson were standing on chairs en deavoring to get recognition to change their vote and get in the band wagon. Tennessee got id first, followed by Alabama. Cheers greeted the change of Ohio, New York and other leading delegations, and es pecially the announcement of Min nesota, at the request of Mr. Towne, casting its solid vote for Stevenson. Senator Clark of Montana rushed to the platform to change his State’s vote. Senator Tillman arose to make Stevenson’s nomination unan imous, but it was unnecessary. Chairman Richardson announced that Adlai E. Stevenson had received every one of the 930 votes cast. ---- --------- - «♦» *----- A TACOMA HORROR. London, July 7.— "Tho massacre of the foreign ministers, the women nnd children, and the guards at Pekin, after 18 days of hoploss ro- sistanee, is confirmed,” says a news agency dispatch from (Shanghai, dated July 6 uml received in Loudon today. “ When the niumuntion and food were exhausted,” continues the dis patch,” thn Chinese fiendH closed in upon tho legations and butchered all who remained alive. Afterwards they set tire to tho legation build ings in wliieh tho remains o f tho victims were consumed in one hor rible holocaust." The dispatch does not state the source from which the news of this confirmation is received, but it is thought that this is indicated by another Shanghai dispatch which states that the Taoti, or officer in charge of several departments at Shanghai and vicinity, now ndmits that no legations exist in Pekin. They are said to have been exter minated, ami it is admitted that no foreigners have been left alive. Reports of the atrocities committed by Prince Tuan upon the Chinese are appalling. He bad 4000Chinoso butchered, it it; said, for merely dar ing to petition to control the orgie of blood and restrain his followers. The dispatch concludes with the an nouncement that ex-Vicerov Chi Li Wang Wen t ’hiao his been killed by the Boxers. 28 26 26 19 32 11 26 9 20 9 20 9 20 7 20 9 60 2 00 5 80 9 20 9 20 5 80 9 60 2 00 2 20 2 20 3 20 9 20 7 20 3 20 2 30 6 80 3 20 9 20 9 20 7 20 3 20 2 00 HANDON PRECINCT---- JUDGES.
