Lady Henry Somerset has been severely criticised by many who haye not understood her property relations, for nllowing public houses ou her estate. A case has just been decided in the chancery oourt, London, by Justice Chitty, which shows her powerlessness to manage her rentals according to her convictions. Refusing to re new a license for the sale o f liquor in a hotel on her estate in Reigate, suit was brought against her, and Justice Chitty decided that she must not allow her personal opin ions to affect her actions in her fiduciary capacity, she merely hold ing her estate as a tenant for life, and that the license should be re newed.
