Lady Henry Somerset has been

A case has
just been decided in the chancery

which shows her powerlessness to
manage her rentals according to
her convictions.
Refusing to re

in a hotel on her estate in Reigate,
suit was brought against her, and
Justice Chitty decided that she
must not allow her personal opin

fiduciary capacity, she merely hold

and that the license should be re

had acted in good faith, the court

Stranger—I would like to see
your bill collector a moment?
Editor—Certainlyl John, baud the
gentleman that shotgun.
Dear Edward, on thy snowy brow
The dews of death have settled now,
And 'neAth thy bright eyes' closed lid
The smiles are now forever hid;
But to a better home above,
Where all is brightness, joy and love,
Your joyful spirit took its flight
Beyond the starry gems of night.
We mourn, dear Ed, thy early doom,
And try to snatch thee from the tomb;
If love and skill could keep thee here.
We would not shed the bitter tear;
But Jesus said, "le t children oome,
Upon my bosom there is room” —
Then thy dear spirit flew away
To live in realms of endless day.
Earth's richest flowers will fade away;
The sun, the moon ana stars deoay;
But the immortal soul shall live
As Jong as He who did it give.
Our Ed has gained that heavenly home,
While we are left to sadly mourn,
But father, mother, cease to weep,
Our dear one has but fallen asleep.

We take this opportunity of informing
onr subscribers that the new Commission®
of Pensions has been appointed. He is an
old soldier, and we believe that soldiers and
lheir heirs will receive justice at his uands.
We do not anticipate that there will be any
radical changes in the administration o f
pension affairs under the now regime.
We would advise, however, that U. S.
soldiers, sailors, nnd their heirs, take steps
to make application at once, if they have
not already done 8 >. in o rJer to secure the
benefit of the early filing of their claims
in case there should be any fa tare pension

Such legislation is seldom
retroactive.
Therefore it is of great im

If U. S. soldiers, sailors or their widows,

PATENTS

FOR INVENTIONS.
Equal with the interest of those having claims against the government is
that of INVENTORS, who often lose the benefit o f valuable inventions because
of the incompeteucy or inattention of the attorneys employed to obtain their
patents. Too much care cannot be exercised in employing competent and reli
able solicitors to procure pateuts, for the value of a patcut depends greatly, if not
entirely, upon the care and skill of the attorney.
With the view of protecting inventors from worthless or careless attorneys,
and of seeing that inventions are well protected by valid patents, we have re
tained counsel expert in patent practice, aud therefore are prepared to
Obtain Patents in the United States anda!) Foreign Countries, Conduct In
terferences, Make Special Examinations, Prosecute Rejected Cases,
Register Trade-Marks and Copyrights, Render Opinions as to
Scope and Validity of Patents, Prosecute and
Defend infringement Suits, Etc., Etc.
I f you have an invention on hand send a sketch or photograph thereof, to
gether with a brief description of the important features, aud you will be at once
advised as to the best course to pursue. Models are seldom necessary. I f
others are infringing on your rights, or if you are charged with infringement b y
others, submit the matter to us for a reliable OPINION before acting on the
matter.
