The repairs aud improvements contemplated require more time thun was anticipated at first; the waterwheel has to be taken up and new boxiug prepared, as the old Babbit metal was very much worn. The fire enable will be entirely changed, by being placed on the peustock and made t<» run with gearing instead of belting. By this arrangement, there will be no water standing in the pump, and no danger o f the water being frozen in it, as was the case when the dry house was burned last winter, and in case o f fire around the engine there would be no belting to be burned, so that the engine can work when surrounded by flames There is to be a brick fire-proof boiler house constructed, with a draft chim ney 60 feet high, and steam-pipes lead ing from the boiler will warm the whole Factory in an agreeable and pleasant manner, heat the vats in the dye-house, and also warm the dryhouse, so there will be no fires kept on the premises elsewhere. Even common lights will soon be done away with, as the Com pany are euteitaining a proposition to construct yas works, on the same plan is is iu operation at the Mission Mills, San Francisco. The refuse aud sweep ings o f the mill can he made use o f to profit in the manufacture o f gas to •ight the entire premises, and this, when in operation will do away with the neecs-ity o f having movable lights in use. Boiler-makers from Portland were here a fjw days since, repairing ¡he flaws existing in the boiler. W lien the Company complete their improvetm nts. the mill will be tlior.
