A squaw also received a severe blow across the forehead with some iron instrument, and came within an ace of furnishing Perry with com pany on bis journey. We saw her in Dallas yesterday and she seemed not much troubled by her ugly wound. Two “ bucks,” Dick and Jake, were arrested charged with the killing, but as no whites witnessed the fight there was not suf ficient evidence to hold them and they were discharged. Query? A man named John Weaver has been indict ed at Walla Walla for maliciously killing a horse, the property of S. M. Wait. George Francis Train lectured at Salem on last Saturday, Sunday and Monday ; at Albany on Tuesday, and at Corvallis on Thursday. Subject— the capital letter “ L ” Rumors are current of the discovery o f new placer diggings somewhere near Pierce City, but the exact locality is not stated. On the night ot the 5th inst. frost fell on the lower Touchet so heavy as to kill melon vines and do considerable injury to tender plants. The ship City o f New York, Capt. Thomas, arrived at San Francisco, July 5lh, with 2,500 tons railroad iron. The army disbursements on this coast are about nine million dollars a year. The heat was so intense in Marysville on Sunday, June 27th, that birds were known to die from the effects of it. A velocipede race took pi *ce at Portland last week for a purse of $40. A meeting was held at Elko on the 9th to take into consideration the construction o f a wagon road irom that place to Boise and to Oregon. A party o f fishermen caught 686 trout in Cow Creek on the 19th ulL During June last Wells, Fargo A Co. shipped from their Silver City office, a total of $128,426. Work on the East-side Railroad is said to be going on briskly near Oregon City. It is in tended to have the track laid to Aurora by the first of December. New mown hay is selling in Albany at $10 per ton. The price of wheat in Salem has advanced to sixty cents. A man named Morton was shot and killed by an Indian called“ Umpqua Joe,” near Vannoy’s Ferry in Jackson county. The Indian and a man named Tom Eastman have been arrested for the crime. Mrs. Drusilla Price, an old resident o f Linn county, died at Albany, July 12th, aged 74 years. Byron Rose, formerly o f Douglas county was killed in a logging eamp near Cove Bay, re cently. “ Lish.” Applegate after his first interview with Geo. Francis Train, informed a friend that be “ didn’ t want any more Train in bis.” He also expressed the belief that Train is a “ de serter from acomic almanac !" Good for “ Lish.” The Oregonian says: Advices from New York, June 30th, are quite encouraging in re gard to Oregon flour. Mr. Charles Dimon, the agent for Imperial, quotes that brand at the head of the market, aud writes that it leads all other brands of the Pacific coast, notwithstand ing the effurtsacd expedients of the other mill ers and their agents. In view of the short crop piospects in several of the wheat growing countries, the price o f flour is likely to be high enough at New York to warrant shipment from Oregon, especially so if it can be shipped direct a sleeping man’s feet.
