BANDON, Volume XXIV. HAD BIG SEASON Outside Districts Cannot Vote at Election Held Next Tuesday ADVERTISED BE An erroneous idea seems to be prevalent concerning the voting at the coming city election to be held next Wednesday Nov. 25. Some have the idea that the people on the outside of the limits and within the territory, proposed to be taken in, will have a vote on the officers and at the same time will vote 0.1 the an nexation question, which if the latter carries, their votes will then lu counted for city officers. While this arrangement woukl be very agreeable to every citizen of Bandon, yet the tact remains that the law' of Oregon precludes any such action and consequently it cannot be taken. In conversation with City Attor- ney Wade he informed the writer that according to the laws of the State of Oregon the question of an- nexation cannot be submitted at the next election to be held the 25th of this month, for the reason that the date of the election,cannot be es tablished until one-full of the legal voters of the city of Bandon petition the council therefor, and the same has been advertise I for four con secutive weeks by m lices posted within the city limits and four no tices outside of the city limits and by five issues in the newspaper So far no immediate steps have been taken by town people looking toward such an election. The coming elec tion on the 25th is already provided for by the charter. The time for holding election oi officers as prescriped by the charter is so short that there was not time to advertise for an election for an nexation, which is the reason the annexation question is not submitted at this time. People both inside and outside the city limits who are interested in the annexation proposition will greatl) regret the fact as it is, but of course the law will have to be abuled bv otherwise the whole proposition would come to naught. --------OOO------ Cobb Company Sells Big Tract Roseburg, Or.
