E. Ftsb, bookkeeper for the Pros per Mill Cu, made a business trip to Carmiebael'e camp uu Bear Creek last Tuesday. He made a tour of tbe camp ami feeling the after effects of bis trip, expresses no desire tu again traverse such rough country. ' < Mr. McQnigg of Coquille came down on ttie Favorite last Tuesday, business with tbe Prosper Mill Co. called him here. Dr. Houston, of Bandon, made this place a professional call last week. Tom Perkins, tbe pioueer nursery man of Parkersburg, was greeting old friends in Prosper last Friday. Mr Colvin was here Thursday, delivering ordered volumes of the late San Francisco disaster. Ed. Taylor, once a resident of the t'oquille, but of late years a sojourn er of central Oregon, has recently re turned from Lookiugglass and is temporarily located here. Mrs Crites of New Aberdeen wa« a passenger to Buudou Thursday. Mrs. A. A. Anderson, of Bandon, made this place a short business visit on tbe 2Utb. H. N. Russell, of Randolph, passed <Brough this place enroute to Bandon Thursday. Dr. H. E. Judge, a late arrival from west New York was introducing himself to Prosper people Friday. He represents a religious denomina tion, tbe Latter Day Saint*, and is looking up a suitable location for a church. As the Prosperites are all “Salvationists’’ we referred him tu Leander. J Moore, the Randolph gardener, passed through this place to Bsndou Friday. F Hilgren aud Axel Sandstrom were passengers to Baudon Thursday C. Barker and wife, of Fairview, visited tbe f<u mer's brother Fred, aod family, at this place the first of I liSl week. * The probable sales of Prosper real estate, of which we have made men- i tion, are not yet consummated. Prop erty here is on tbe increase and al most invaluable. M hen ho invesioi presents himself for a purchase, » price is set and when be returns it has advanced a hundred or two. A dance was given at Bullards Sat nrday uigbt. It was not largely at tended yet a pleasant time was re ported. Mrs. Carothers ami daughter Mist Welcome, returned Saturday, from a two weeks visit with friends at Co quille. They had an enjoyable time Mary Haii'-eu. of Marshfield, is visiting Pearl Bullard, of Bullards. A. Griffiiu aud Ray Van Aiiken. of New Aberdeen, emigrated to Bandon Saturday. Tbe latter is seen wau dering iu that direction quite fre quently of late Tbe weather is extremely dry asd sultry in this part of the hemisphere and we are sadly iu ueed of a rail) to refresh and invigorate tbe vegetables and grass, and if it is not forthcoming fall feed will be scarce. Already the milk is falling off at tbe creameries wbicb is premature in accordance with other seasons. Tbe farmers have their hay secured ami a raiufall would be a blessing. Tbe fruit crop is figuratively speaking a failure Certain locations are more furtuuate than others but as a whole it is a fail ure. This is something wbicb here tofore unknown in this county. Even tbe blackberries have failed to re s[s>ud abundantly. Tbe berry pickers can Le seen returning with empty buckets, and a disappointed look up on tbeir countenances. A great mauy of unr citizens have hied away to tbe city by the sea to recuperate and breaibe some pure ozone from tbe placid walers of the Pacific ocean, aud at tbe present time otir city resembles a cemetery to a certain extent. However there are some improvements going on in the form of dwelling bouses. J. A. Lamb s tine residence is nearing completion. Paulson, Wm. Nye and Bel Ion I, have commenced the construction of tine residences on Nob Hill aod when completed will be a tine acquisition to tbe already palatial residences in that fashionable locality. l'be steamer Liberty is undergoing repairs tbe result of an encounter with a schooner recently in your city The probis attribute it to tbe saloons They say the crew was intoxicated Be it so or be it otherwise when the steamer arrived st Coquille she re sembled a dismantled Russian gun boat after being entertained by the Japauese war fleet. However she will be ready to resume operations soon again. I see Lynn Doyle's mother-in-law is down your way She gave a syn opsis of a camping on I tit that Wfih unfortunate enough to camp on tbe mild Hat over night. Now Mr. Ed itor if she gets that nagging old tongue in motion against yon you will be praying for tbe Tupper Rock to fall upon you or be tempted to commit suicide by jumping iu the river to shield yon from ber scurrilous old tongue, which when thorough)) lubricated w ill wallop you to a finish. Better yon have Judge Quick sit on her for insanity. Poor Lynn comes to town occasionally to see us boys but everything is dry aud he said be guessed he would come no more, no place to refresh. The only tbiug ibat marred the pleasure of the eveuiug was that the violinist went on a strike about two oclock. A game of baseball took place Sun day between the Raudolph and Ban don teams in which Bandon was de feated by a score of 8 to 9. Mr. Chas.
