Bandon Has Made a Fine Growth the Past Year and Has Bright Future. — k HHIIU AT BANDON DOCRH Bandon Manufacturing Industries. Bandon Commercial Company. Within ten years from dow Bandon will be one of the most important manufacturing towns in this part of tbe state. It doesn't take a prophet to make this prediction. Almost everything that nature does for a manufacturing point baa been done for t bis pl see, and only man's part remains to be done, and be is at work ou tbe job. Already manufacturers bare seen and seized upon tbe advantages here, and there are now numerous plants and more in sight, A fleet of schooners and steamer* are now kept busy between Bandon’ and California points, aud Portland will wake up some day and send ves sels after this trade, Riverboats also ply up and down tbe Coquille river for forty miles, giving tbe farmers aod ranchers transportation facilities. A railroad is being built from tbe main line of tbe Southern Pacific at Drain to tap this rich region, and it is said that the Santa Fe will bnild tbrongb this country with a Imo from Sau Francisco to Portland. Thus tbe shipping facilities for manufactured products are aud will be all that could be desired. Tbe climate at Bandon is the most equable of any in tbe United Blates, and factories can run all tbe year. For fuel we bave wood and coal. Tbia whole conutry is underlaid with coal, and development of this indus try has hardly commenced. In many places where development work has been done, three and four strata from throe to six feet thick overlay each other. These coal Jguds lie imtuedi ately upon, or so close to tbe (Jo.qjl'lle river, that the coal can be put aboard vessels at slight expense. Tbe above are some of the reasons why Bandon offers an attractive field tof manufacturing enterprises. Fol lowing is a list of tbe plants Dow located here: Bandon Woolen Mills. Bandon Manufacturing (Jo, Salmon Cannery. Broombandie Factory. Wood-pipe Plant. Bandon Foundry. Brewery. Match Factory. is a corporation consisting of t^e fol lowing: Elbert Dyer Pres., Robt. Frederick Jr. Sec., Geo. E. Howe Manager, S F. office. They are en gaged in manufacturing white cedar lumber, shingles and broomhaudles. They arc doing a general warehouse business, and are agents for ocean going steamers which are at tbe pres ent time tbe S. S. Elizabeth and Oak land, vessels making regular trips be tween tbie port and San Francisco. Mr. Dyer aud Mr. Frederick bave virtually grown np with tbe town, tbe former coming here with bis father over 20 years ago; be has been identi fied with the advancement of nearly all tbe commercial entorpises that bave helped to build np tbe town. Mr. Frederick at tbe age of sixteen, took charge of tbe office and general store of tbe Coquille Mill & Tug Co., at Parkersburg, then under tbe able management pl Captain J. Parker, one of our earliest pioneers. At tbe age of 22 be assumed the management of tbe steamers plying 00 tbe river between Myrtle Point and this place. After operating them successfully for about six years, be sold out and joined the Kloodyko rush of 18.18, for tbe Yukon River, Alaska, and during the following five years ran as both master aud pilot uf river steamers op I lip Yukon between Daw sun City and St. Michaels. Thousands of gallons of wild huckleberries, dew berries and black cap raspberries are gathered each year.
