At first he didu’t want me to do it, but finally consented and I ad vet Used iu the papers and got work for every day iu the week except Hun- day. My husband said he felt mean to stay at home and do uotlilng, tor the housekeeping, the cooking and the miudiug of the children didu’t amount to auytbmg, and be would be taking things easy while I weut out to make the livlnw. The first day, be said, Ire got along titre. The nextday he spanked the babies twice because they bother« d him, aud that worried him, liecauae be had never laid bis hands on them be fore. He only got two beds made and the kitchen swept, and you would have never known be bad put a broom to it. He wouldn’t get the children any hot luueb, which they bad been used to, but made them eat crackers and butter. He always wanted a variety for dinner. That night we had potatoes boiled with their jackets on until they fell to pieces, aud some bacon fried to a crisp and tea which was only water, he having for gotten to put the tea in the teapot. The next day he said the children drove him wild, and be Hpanked them again, and the whole house was topey- turvey. He put the dinner on to cook and went out aud sat down on the porch. After awhile a neighbor came aloug aud told him be thought our house was ou tire, for smoke was com ing out of the windows. Both of them ran in, and there was the dinner cooked to a cinder and the whole bouse filled with smoke. My husband had to go out aud get other things for dinner.
