HIE RECORDER 18 PUBLISHED EVEBT THURSDAY AFTEBMOON .... BT .... Co. Court Proccecings Court Proceeding« Concluded. K. A, Lcep, medical services for Mis sou............................................................ G W Pembroke, wood for Mrs Hodson NOW Perkins, drugs for Mrs Hodson L One of the late institutions that rears its young head of collossal pro portion is a soft coal trust. If there is anything soft about a trust, it shows up about the time the trust controls tbo article it has designs upon. The soft snap then appears when the price is raised, and tbo consumer watchos his bard earned dollars drawn irresistably out of bis posses sion—a soft snap for the trust. For the third timo the country mourns the deutb of its chief execu tive officer becauso of the assassin’s bullet. Conditions have come to a bad pass when the life of a man whom the American people have honored as the most distinguished citizen is in jeopardy because of the position he occupies. It is time that a halt is called and anarchists, and anarchist makers are brought up with a short turn. Charles H. Cline, of Alta, Iowa, who served in the Boer army and was captured and furnished transporta tion home, says that to his personal knowledge there are 16,000 well aimed well equipped men in the Boer army who wiil never lay down their arms until they secure independence for their people, Ho says that war will continue over there for the □ext hundred years unless the Boers are given their freedom. One of the weatlhiest states in the Union is Ohio. It is well situated for commerce, has fertile soil and abounds in natural wealth, and in manu factories. Yet, with all its manufac tories and natural wealth, poverty must hold high carnival even in Ohio, as State Commissioner L. D. Bone brake, of that commonwealth, made a statement before the county insti tute, at Painesville, that it cost Ohio nns more per capita to care for the paupers of the state than to maintain the public schools. S tate O hio , C ity of T oledo , 1 L ucas C ounty , J F rank J. C heney makes oath that he is the senior partner of the firm of F. J. Hall’s Family Pills are the best. ------ OGO------- Appeal to Reason: Iu Chicago sov era) restaurant keepers have adopted the plan after business hours of open ing their doors to a crowd of poor folks who wish baskets filo into the 'leserted place of business and for a dime have a basket filled with the food that lias been left by the more fortunate. Little boys and girls and old men and women wait until long after dark that they may havo an opportunity to buy for a pittance food to enable them to. live till tbo morrow when the same grind com mences. This incident of daily oc currence loads a writer in the Chicago American to remark: “What system merits anything but censure which makes it necessary that little boys and girls go <Mit at dark to get the leavings of a days trade? Each man because, without volition, he has been born into the world, has a right to bis daily bread—has a right to it without the humiliation of taking it as charity from any one. All over the world Christians pray each night r 'Givens this day our daily broad? Whom do they mean by 'us'? Are there matiy of them that rise from their prayers to go out into the world nnd so organize society that all those that work may live, and tho children be free> Are there many that ever think of this mighty pageantry of the poor people that leave their homes and walk long distances through darkening streets ‘o get their daily ' ^»ead ix > n Ilod- 32 00 6 OO 13 40 INFIRMARY EXPENSES.
