Members of the Special Event Board attend events as flag carriers and represent the Tribe and their branch of service. Tribal Community Center Smoke Signals PUBLICATIONS OFFICE 9615 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde, OR 97347 1-800-422-0232, FAX: 503-879-2173 Storytelling events set for Friday, Feb. 17 PORTLAND – Wisdom of the Elders and the Northwest Indian Story- tellers Association are holding two Native American storytelling events on Friday, Feb. 17, at Portland Community College Cascade’s Moriarty Auditorium, 705 N. Killingsworth. The traditional First Foods Symposium will be held from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and will feature guest speakers discussing the effect of a changing envi- ronment on salmon, lamprey, camas and other threatened and endangered traditional food species. An evening of storytelling will begin at 7 p.m. Advisory Council members of the Northwest Indian Storytellers Association will share traditional stories about traditional first foods. Both events will integrate Native American cultural arts with traditional ecological knowledge and other science, technology, engineering, arts and math elements integral to indigenous science. Tickets are available at Wisdom of the Elders’ website, www.wisdomofth- eelders.org. However, no one will be turned away because of lack of funds.
