Willamina schools receive grant Willamina schools were among 142 Oregon middle and high schools to receive a career readiness grant, according to state Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian and Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction Salam Noor. The CTE Revitalization Grant funds will provide programs focused on advanced manufacturing, engineering, agricultural science, app develop- ment, robotics, tourism, forestry, home renovation and health care. The Willamina School District received $390,745. “These grants will help more students prepare for college and careers,” Noor said. “I’m very pleased to see the ongoing expansion of hands-on, applied learning to more schools around the state. These programs are good for students, good for businesses and good for local communities.” “A skilled workforce is the foundation of a healthy economy,” Avakian said. “Today’s grants will give more Oregon students access to hands-on learning and skills training that they need to succeed.” Graduation rates for students in CTE programs are almost 90 percent, according to the National Association of State Directors of Career Tech- nical Education Consortium. About 31 percent of the Willamina School District student population is comprised of Native American students, most of them being members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.
