S moke S ignals APRIL 1, 2015 19 EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES Important notice to full-time students All full-time students must submit verification that they have applied to a scholarship outside the Tribe before funding will be released for the term/semester. Verification can include a scholarship award or denial letter, e-mail verification that an application was submitted, a copy of the application or the financial aid award letter that lists an outside scholarship. Please contact Education at 1-800-422-0232, ext. 2275, if you have any questions. CTGR Higher Education Program deadlines set There are now only two Higher Education programs depending on wheth- er you are full-time or part-time. The deadline for the Full-Time College program is at least 30 days before the start of classes. The deadline for the Part-Time College program is at least 10 days before the start of class. Ad created by George Valdez CTGR Youth Education Elementary K5 2015 Summer Program Applications available on Monday April 6th Get Fired Up for Reading! Congratulations to all of our read- ers in this program this year. We surpassed our goal of besting last year’s record by almost 70 books. A total of 296 books were read in the five-week period by readers of all ages. To celebrate, the library held “Dragon Days,” which featured youth activities that included dragon art, books and crafts. March was also “Youth Art Month,” so student art was featured on the bulletin board through end of March. Donations: Our thanks to Kyler Thompson, Oregon State Univer- sity, Wink Soderberg and Beth Brown for contributions to the library collection this reporting period. We appreciate the generosity of our community members and friends from other areas. Reminder: Donated items must be clean and in good condition. Inter-Library Loan services: The Tribal Library partners with Oregon State Library to offer “library to library” inter-library loan services. By completing the inter-library loan form, patrons may re- quest items from the Oregon State Library collection. Items will be couriered to and from the Tribal Library. OSL lending policies apply for return of items. MIDDLE SCHOOL REWARDS TRIP: 4th Annual UO Youth Movement The K5 Summer Program will be expanding by 50%, to a capacity of 60 students, to help meet the needs of our Tribal and Native youth. A K-2nd and 3rd-5th program will be offered on the CTGR Campus. There have been changes to the enrollment process. Please see below: April 27–May 1 Open enrollment for CTGR Tribal Member Youth (First come, First serve) Time: 8am-12pm & 1pm-5pm weekdays (or until full) Location: CTGR Youth Education Building May 4–Until full Open enrollment for CTGR Tribal Member Youth, Descendant and other enrolled Native youth (First come, First serve) Time: 8am-12pm & 1pm-5pm week days (or until full) Location: CTGR Youth Education Building Applications must be submitted to a Youth Education staff member @ the Youth Education front desk Eligibility Criteria/Intake Policy: All students enrolled in the program must meet the eligibility guidelines listed below, as well as provide proof of the following: Parent/Guardian must be working, participating in training, and/or in school during the hours of operation (typically 7:30 a.m.–5:15 p.m., Monday–Friday) or be providing foster or protective services. Student must be enrolled in Kindergarten through fifth grade during the 2014-15 school year Tribal Affiliation: Must be an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde; a member of another federally recognized tribe; or a descendant Service Area: Student must reside in one of six county service areas (Polk, Marion, Multnomah, Tillamook, Washington, Yamhill).
