4 NOVEMBER 1,2011 Smoke Signals 2006 The Tribe was in the process of building a new fish weir in Agency Creek. Tribal Engineer Eric Scott was working with Gelco Construction, the subcontractor responsible for pouring the concrete footing for the fish weir, which was designed to withstand the chal lenges of high water and debris flowing down the creek. 2001 An auction for the West Valley Veterans' Memorial raised awareness of the ongoing fundraising effort and $5,500 for the memorial. Tribal Elder Kathryn Harrison also donated $1,000 more to the effort, bringing the evening's total take to $6,500. With money brought in by the auction, the campaign had collected almost $70,000 of the $300,000 needed for construction. 1996 Spirit Mountain Casino donated two Marksman LTI 2020 Lasers to Oregon State Police responsible for monitoring state High way 18 traffic. The hardware was the casino's latest contribution to traffic safety, which included the voluntary construction of a $2.5 million interchange at the entrance to the gaming facility. 1991 The proposed Tribal budget for 1992 totaled $9.1 mil lion. Most of the Tribe's revenue was coming from timber sales and federal and state grants. ' . . , 1986 The Tribe was advertising for a person to handle hunting and fishing issues, as well as publish the monthly Tribal newsletter. P r-'f 'r, '' Restoration Committee seeks historic photos The Tribe's 28th Restoration Celebration Committee is seeking historic photos of past Tribal celebrations held at the recently purchased Grand Ronde Middle School and photos of Tribal members, family members and community members who have walked on since the last Restoration celebration on Nov. 22, 2010. The photos will be used for a commemorative slideshow to be shown during the 28th Restoration Celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 22, in the gym of the former middle school.
