Smoke Signals 15 OCTOBER 1,2011 Important notice to full-time students All full-time students must submit verification that you have ap plied to a scholarship outside the Tribe BEFORE funding will be released for the termsemester. Verification can include a scholar ship award or denial letter, e-mail verification that an application was submitted, a copy of the application or your financial aid award letter that lists an outside scholarship. Please contact Education at 1-800-422-0232, ext. 2275, if you have any questions. Still waiting to hear how much aid your will receive? If you are still waiting to hear how much financial aid you will receive from your collegeuniversity for the upcoming academic year, make sure you have submitted all of your required paperwork to the Financial Aid Office. Oftentimes all that is missing is a simple form. Until all require ments are met, your award will be on hold. Don't wait until last minute to submit your paperwork! It generally takes several weeks to process your award once you submit all of your required paperwork. The easiest way to check the status of your award is to log on to your student info page with your collegeuniversity and look on the financial aid page. New CTGR Higher Education Program deadlines set There are now only two Higher Education programs depending on whether you are full-time or part-time. The deadline for the Full-Time College program is at least 30 davs before the start of classes. The deadline for the Part-Time College program is at least 10 days before the start of class. There are numerous scholarship opportunities offered for students to apply to each year. The majority of scholarships for fall termsemester are due between January and April of each year. Don't miss your chance to apply for FREE money for college! The Tribal Higher Education programs are here to assist you in your application process. You can also utilize a scholarship search engine to help you locate scholar ships. If you use a scholarship search site, be sure to read the privacy policy to ensure you are using a site that will not sell your contact information. A recommended search site to use is www.kaarme.com. Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Applications are being accepted for the 2012-13 Coca-Cola Scholarships. Applicants must be high school (or home-schooled) seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA. Fifty students will be awarded $20,000 scholarships, and 200 students will be awarded $10,000 scholarships. Seeking Photos of Tribal veterans: We would like to put together an "Honoring Our Veterans" photo display in the Tribal Library. We want to have as many of our Tribal veterans repre sented as possible so we are asking for everyone's help in gathering and sending in photos. Photos can be sent directly to the Library. Please include name, branch and time of service for each person in the photo. Due to limited space, please keep size to 5-by-7 inch for individual photos and 8-by-10 inch for group photos. We would like to get the display up before Veterans Day. Your help and par ticipation is appreciated in making this project a success. Tiny Tots Program: This program started back up on Sept. 12 at the Tribal Library at noon -1 p.m. Tiny Tots program is for youth ages 1-3 and their parent, grandparent or caretaker. We will read a story and do interactive activities and then there is time for family reading or to check out books. Hereafter the program will be held on the first Monday of the month at noon 1 p.m. as follows: Oct. 3, Nov. 7 and Dec. 5. -
