Current regular employees Casino hosting conference Spirit Mountain Casino will host the sixth annual "Native Caring ... A Conference to Learn, Connect & Share" on Wednesday and Thursday, March 30-31. The conference will bring together caregivers of Native Elders and rela tive caregivers of children from Northwest Indian communities. Topics to be discussed include the power of positive thinking, nutrition and fitness, the challenges of dementia and chronic disease self-management, among many others. The event is sponsored by the Native Wellness Institute and sponsored by the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, Confederated Tribes of Si letz Indians, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Indians, Confederated Tribes of Umatilla Indian Reservation, the Klamath Tribes, Burns Paiute Tribe, Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, state Unit on Aging and Oregon Area Agencies on Aging. The career day was for seventh- and eighth-graders and in addition to Campbell's presentation on appropriate workplace behavior, there were also presentations by a veterinarian from Newberg Veterinary Hospital, and representatives from the University of Oregon, Western Oregon University and Safeway. Veterans Powwow set for July 8-1 0 The 2011 Veterans Powwow will be held Friday through Sunday, July 8-10, at Uyxat Powwow Grounds off Hebo Road near Fort Yamhill State Park. Grand entries will be held on 7 p.m. Friday, 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Master of ceremonies will be Nick Sixkiller and whip man will be Tony Whitehead. All veterans, dancers and members of the public are invited to attend. There will be arts and crafts and food vendors. Free camping and parking will be available, but no drugs, alcohol or pets will be allowed.
