Smoke Signals 4 JANUARY 1,2011 2006 Tribal member Steve Bobb Sr. was on temporary assign ment at Coyote Joe's restaurant in Willamina to create a one-quarter sized version of his next life-sized effort, "View From the Top," a logger memorial dedicated to Oregon loggers who have lost their lives in the business. 2001 Tribal member Tim Holmes won the Paul G. Hearne Award, which was established in 1999 to honor the founder of the American Association of People With Disabilities. He earned the award for his outstanding leadership in advocating for disability rights. 1996 Spirit Mountain Casino was preparing for a 36,000-squa re foot Phase II expansion, which will include a steak house and lounge, banquet and meetings rooms, child play area, video arcade, RVpark and expansion of gaming space. 1991 Maintenance crew member Gregg Leno was pictured work ing with his uncle, Russ Leno, on the new roof of the senior meal site, which was completed in early December. 1986 Tribal membership was officially 1,799 with 61 new appli cants approved for enrollment in the Grand Ronde Tribe, and Frank Harrison accepted appointment to a vacant Tribal Council position. DMV changes rules for veterans Starting Jan. 1, Oregon residents who are military veterans can have their status as a veteran placed on their driver's license, driver's permit or identification card. Veterans can request the designation when they apply for a license, permit or ID card, or when they renew or replace their card. Applicants who qualify will have the word "veteran" placed above the issue date on the front of the card. To qualify, veterans must provide proof of veteran status by presenting a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (Form DD214) or a Correction to DD214 (Form DD215). According to the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs, there are approximately 351,000 veterans in Oregon. The option was the result of legislation passed in 2010. B Wellness Program meets The Eugene Tribal Wellness Program meets at 10 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. All fitness levels are welcome. The program covers strength, car dio and stretching, and discusses strategies for healthy living at home. The program is free to Tribal members, and their spouses. B Notice of Availability of Funds and Request for Comment on Proposed Use The Confederated 'Tribes of Grand Ronde, as a Special Transportation Fund Agency, has been allocated up to $112,669 in federal 5310 grant funds and $30,000 of State STG funds for the 2011-2013 biennium un der the Public Transportation Discretionary Grant program offered by the Oregon Public Transit Division. The Tribe is requesting comment on the following project proposed for use of this funding: A project to support transit operations between Salem and Grand Ronde and be tween Grand Ronde, Willamina, Sheridan and McMinnville through round trip purchased services Monday through Friday which are open to the general public and lift equipped for the disabled. At this time the Tribe anticipates renewing intergovernmental agreements for transit services with the Salem Area Mass Transit District and the Yamhill County Transit Area. Both routes are in the Tribe's existing adopted Coordinated Trans portation Plan as a priority service. The Plan was created with and reviewed and recommended by the Tribe's STF Advisory Committee and then adopted by Tribal Council.
