QjGS35S Dear Smoke Signals: I am writing this letter to enlighten the personpersona who are in charge of the conduct of the security guards at the casino. There were at least two of them that discriminated against Grand Ronde Tribal family members and another two that neglected to remove a man who was seen by the construction crew trying to break into some vehicles in the rear parking lot. The first incident happened on June 1, 2010, after a few of my relatives had eaten dinner at the casino and was enjoying a sporting event that was almost over. The two guards approached them and asked the grandfather to step outside for a moment. They took him outside where there was a Polk County Sheriff and they told him to remove his shirt. Naturally, he is not going to undress in public and be humiliated. His shirt was a red T-shirt with a memorial picture of his grandson silk-screened on to the back. The security guards proceeded to leave and return to my relatives on four separate occasions. On one occasion, they pulled a sister outside and told her she needed to take off her jumpsuit, which was pink. On the final attempt to humiliate these relatives in front of everyone in the establish ment, one of my relatives proceeded to tell all of the non-Native patron onlookers who were wearing the same color some of them were that they needed to go get in line because they were getting evicted. This made the guards mad and they kicked him out for harassing the patrons, but the Polk County Sheriffagreed with my relatives and said they kicked us out for wearing something that non-Native patrons are wearing, then that's racial profiling, which is illegal. The guards then stated that . what they were doing was ordered by members of Tribal Council. The second incident happened June 4, 2010, when my son, other Tribal crew members and the construction boss were on the fourth floor work ing. They spotted a man in the back parking lot trying to break into their vehicles. The boss immediately reported it to security, who eventually got there. The construction boss asked if they were going to need him or his crew to hang around to give the Polk County Sheriffs Office a report and identify the guy and security told him no that they would take care of it. Four hours later, my son said he got off work and went to the front of our casino and was shocked to see the thief standing with the security guards, laughing and smoking a cigarette. I want to know if there is anyone on council who really knows about this and cares? This isn't a joke. Who is the one that gives the guards their orders and did they order them to persecute traditionals who are direct descendants of our oldest and respected Tribal member, Nora? Cheryle Kennedy and Wink Soderberg are also our direct descendants and I don't believe for a second that it was them who said, "Go harass my tilirum!" Since these guards put our elected relatives on the block, then let's hear what they have to say, or see what you can do to find out about these in cidents and please report back to your Tribe, your tilixum, because that's why you're working.
