Tribal Elder Betty Bly, 64, Roll 3544. Bly is vice chair of the Cul tural Committee and a member of the Cultural Trust Board. She lives in Grand Ronde. Bly was nominated by Tribal member Rex Haller. Tribal Elder and current Tribal Council member Steve Bobb Sr., 61, Roll 38. Bobb also is owner of Bobb Art & Design and lives in Willamina. He was nominated by Tribal Elder Dale Langley. '. Tribal member Denise Harvey, 48, Roll 1874. Harvey, who is health coordinator for Providence Portland Medical Center, also is chair of the Grand Ronde Gam ing Commission and member of the Oregon Trades Women Board of Directors, CTGR Head Start Policy Council and Enterprise for Employment and Education Youth Subcommittee. She lives in Tuala tin. She was nominated by Tribal Elder Jolanda Catabay. Tribal Elder Jack Giffen Jr., 58, Roll 182. Giffen was a Tribal Council member for two terms, from 2003-2009, and lives in Wil lamina. He was nominated by his aunt, Tribal Elder Val Grout. Tribal member Michael Bolton, 42, Roll 4762. Bolton, a retiree, lives in Willamina and was nomi nated by Tribal Council member Valorie Sheker. Tribal Elder Patsy Pullin, 67, Roll 238. Pullin is program su pervisor for the Tribe's Employ ment and Training and Voc Rehab sections, and lives in Willamina. She was nominated by her mother, Tribal Elder and former Tribal Chairwoman Kathryn Harrison. Tribal Elder Dakota White cloud, 62, Roll 1587. Whitecloud is Tribal Council Relations coordi nator, and lives in Grand Ronde. She was nominated by her daugh ter, Maria Christina Trevino. Tribal member Chris Mercier, 34, Roll 1821. Mercier is a current Tribal Council member, former Tribal chairman and lives in Grand Ronde. He was nominated by fellow Tribal Council member and Tribal Elder Wink Soderberg. Tribal Elder Ed Larsen, 67, Roll 414. Larsen, a retiree, was a Tribal Council member from 1992 2004, and lives in Grand Ronde. He was nominated by Tribal member Greg Shandy. He lives in Sheridan. He was nomi nated by Tribal member Renaldo Minjarez. Ballots will be mailed to voters with verified signatures on July 28. Tribal members may create a verified signature card at any time up to and including Election Day, which is Saturday, Sept. 11. Tribal member Penny DeLoe, chair of the Election Board, will be available to help during normal business hours in the Member Services office (she was recently named manager of the department) through July 26. Thereafter until Election Day, the Election Office in the !om munity Center building will be open for 20 hours a week, although the exact hours have not yet been Ad created by George valdez determined. DeLoe can be reached by phone through the main Tribal switchboard. Candidate Statements are due in the Smoke Signals office by 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, and will be featured in the following issue of Tilixam Wawa, slated to be mailed the week of July 27. Candidates are limited to 600 word statements and late state ments will not be accepted. In addition, candidate statements will be run "as is," meaning the Tribe's Publications staff will not edit the submissions in any way other than to ensure they meet the 600-word limitation. Election results will be counted at the Community Center on Satur day, Sept. 11, and posted that eve ning on the Community Center's front doors. D Osbonrn, Whispers to perform at casino Jeffrey Osborn and The Whispers will perform at Spirit Mountain Casino at 8 p.m. Friday, July 23. Osborn began his music career in the 1970s and had several hit songs in the 1980s, including "On the Wings of Love" and "Love Power," a duet he recorded with Dionne Warwick. The Whispers began their recording career in the 1960s and gained national attention in the 1970s with the hits "One for the Money," "Open Up Your Love" and "Headlights." Tickets are $35, $25 and $15 and are available for purchase at www. spiritmountain.com or at the Coyote Club desk inside the casino.
