Take the success that Tribal member Jared Nunley, 25, has had in earning his wastewater certificate issued by Linn-Benton Community College and the state Department of Environmental Quality. Last year, Nunley was select ed for a wastewater internship through the casino's Tribal Career Development Office. This year, pos sibilities abound for him. "It's kind of put me on a career path for the rest of my life," Nun ley said. 'There's room to improve. I can upgrade the certificate from one to four." The two-year internship is a partnership with Spirit Mountain Casino and the Tribal Education Department. "Jared is learning new skills that can be used for the Tribe, the casino, or throughout the state of Oregon," said David DeHart, de velopmenter in the Tribal Career Development Office. "It makes me more marketable," Nunley said. "I can work anywhere in the state with this certificate. I'm I 1 Jared Nunley kind of keeping my doors open." Nunley's internship ends in May. The Tribal Career Development Office supervises five other active interns: Denise McGee, Casino Fi nance; Lynn Cook, Facilities; Rick McKnight, Facilities; Torey Wake land, Player ServicesSlots; and Misty Carl, who works in the Tribal Career Development Office. Spirit Mountain Casino currently employs 185 Tribal members, the highest Tribal employment rate ever, according to Tribal Elder Sam Henny, manager of the Tribal Ca reer Development Program. This Representative reports directly to the Customer Service Manager and will assist health plan participants and health care providers with any health insurance and benefit-related needs. This individual will respond to incoming telephone calls and e-mails, process various requests, perform spe cific administrative functions and work with other departments and entities to resolve issues and provide customers with World-Class customer service. This remote employee will work onsite at a facihty in Grand Ronde, but will be an integral part of the Shasta Customer Service Depart ment. The ability to travel to Shasta on an as-needed basis after the initial training is required. A college degree is preferred along with 1-2 years of customer ser vice or call center experience and knowledge of the health care andor insurance industry. This "team oriented" individual must be highly organized and have the ability to effectively communicate complex issues in a pleasant, positive and professional manner, while multi tasking and navigating various computer screens. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, computer and customer service skills and possess a genuine desire to learn and assist others.
