10 FEBRUARY 1,2008 Smoke Signals Dear Smoke Signals: The family of Tom Bean Sr. would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who supported him by attending and donating items for his fundraiser on Nov. 26. We would like Tribal Council to know that the blankets donated for the raffle and also presented to Lavern at the funeral were greatly appreciated and meant more than you could imagine. Tom thought no one would show up at his fundraiser and when he was there greeting everyone at the door by name, he had a twinkle in his eye and felt so loved. There was a huge turnout. Necessary money was gener ated that made his doctor visits to Salem less of a burden. We were all so hopeful that the radiation treatment would result in a successful removal of the tumor, but grandfather had other ideas and took him home on Dec. 7. Thank you to all who helped Tom in his time of need with love, prayer and positive energy. Kimberly Campbell Roll 1492 Dear Smoke Signals: Native blood is priceless, as is real Native pride. Get up and vote! Children, families and ancestors are a very big factor. I thank the Creator each and every day for them. It's a disgrace to dissect all Native American blood. Every drop is sacred and very precious. Ancestors suffered and sacrificed their lives for what we have. Haven't they taken enough away? Maxine Rock Roll 1173 Dear Smoke Signals: After reading the Jan. 15 edition of Smoke Signals, I am totally pleased at the efforts of Mr. Don Day in constructing a plankhouse for the people. I pray that I can be in attendance when the people fill it for the first time. I had the high honor of knowing Mr. Day's father, Joe. He was a combat veteran of World War II, serving in the Marine Corps. My prayers of support go to you, Don.
